Using the MyApps Page Will Soon Result in Fewer Duo Prompts

By now, we’ve all gotten used to seeing Duo MFA prompts periodically when logging into a variety of university sponsored applications (i.e., Outlook Mail, Workday, etc.). For enhanced security purposes, prompts typically occur more frequently when outside the W&L campus network (working from home). The daily threat posed by cyber-criminals to the university community is an ever-persistent and evolving concern and requires an on-going effort to protect sensitive data and the personal information of employees and students.

The MyApps page is a convenient starting point for accessing and logging into your favorite productivity resources. ITS will be adding an additional convenience for users, beginning on Monday, February 22nd by configuring fewer Duo prompts across a variety of applications, when launched from the MyApps page, while on the campus network.

What will users notice?

  • When logged into the MyApps page while on campus, you will NOT need to confirm your identity through Duo when opening applications like Workday, Outlook Mail etc.
  • When logging into the MyApps page while outside the campus network, you WILL need to confirm your identity once through Duo, but NOT when opening applications like Workday, Outlook Mail etc.

Are there exceptions to this rule?

Yes. Whether you are on the campus network, or not, you will always be required to confirm your identity through Duo when accessing myVI and VPN.

**HINT** To minimize the number of times you’re prompted to verify your identify with Duo, be sure to check “Remember me for 14 days” during the login process. This will significantly reduce the frequency of forced prompts.

As always, should you have questions about this update, please contact the Helpdesk at X4357 or help@wlu.edu.
