Microsoft has released the Windows 11 Operating System and some of you have asked the ITS Helpdesk if an upgrade is coming soon.

As is often the case with new operating systems, there are a lot of unknowns about how Windows 11 will function with the hardware and software we support on campus. Before we install Windows 11 on your computer, we will install it and run it for several months on ITS test computers that we can monitor daily. We have no near-term plans on rolling Windows 11 out to campus PCs.

Some people want to know if they should upgrade their personal computer to Windows 11, now that it is available. Given our experience with Windows Operating systems, we recommend waiting at least three months after the release of a new OS so other brave souls can work out the bugs. If, however, you like to always have the latest software, please read the information on this page: Windows 11 Specs and System Requirements, to find out if Windows 11 will work on your computer.

Please contact the ITS Helpdesk at X4357 or help@wlu.edu if you have additional questions about the new Windows 11 Operating System.
